👉 Fireclay is the "premium" material for building a traditional wood-fired oven. Indeed, the major asset of kaolin is its exceptional thermal inertia since it can store a massive amount of heat and release it slowly: once the fire has died down or been pushed to the side, the shell keeps giving off a gentle, constant heat.

✅ Another advantage, and no small one: its resistance to thermal shock! Unlike natural stone or standard concrete, which could crack, refractory clay is designed to withstand sudden temperature changes. It does not degrade despite repeated heating and cooling cycles: its very thick 8 cm walls will give it durability and a long service life.

✅ It also has a low coefficient of expansion, which limits the appearance of major structural cracks.

✅ Finally, a well-built clay oven is an investment for several decades: it is not affected by corrosion and stands up very well to the abrasion caused by logs and pizza peels rubbing against it.

Choosing a Bunker refractory clay shell will give you a great freedom in the design and construction of your pizza oven: you will create a unique piece you can be proud of!

Can't decide between the single-piece shell and the "Bunker" shell? Their main difference is wall thickness: 5 cm for the single-piece shell versus 8 cm for the Bunker shell.

What effect does this have on the oven's performance and use? The 8 cm thick shell will take longer to heat up and store heat, but will release it over a longer period, ideal for those who want to cook pizzas, then bread, and then slow-cook dishes for many hours, or for professionals who need the oven to stay hot for evening service.

You will be able to select the materials that truly match your needs:
🔥 Insulation of your supporting slab using calcium silicate boards
🔥Building your oven entrance: firebricks and refractory split bricks in dark or light shades, in various sizes, oven door in cast iron or steel...
🔥 Jointing the bricks with a refractory mortar, dark grey or off-white depending on the look you want
🔥 External insulation of the dome with SuperwoolPlus refractory blanket
🔥 External finish of the dome: choose from our wide range of refractory castables.

Not forgetting the essential tools to use and fully enjoy this new companion that will delight young and old all summer long!
