Boiler fireboxes for masonry heaters: combine water heating and radiant heat

Discover our range of boiler fireboxes specially designed for masonry heaters. These ingenious systems can produce domestic hot water or heat a radiator network, while you enjoy the gentle, radiant heat characteristic of heat-storing heaters. A hybrid, efficient solution for optimal thermal comfort.

Boiler firebox: how does it work?

The boiler firebox is integrated into the core of the masonry heater. It captures part of the heat generated by combustion and transfers it to a water circuit. This water can then supply a buffer tank, radiators or underfloor heating. Depending on the model, you can:

  • Produce hot water continuously
  • Split the heat between radiant heating (inertia of the mass) and hydronic heating (hot water)

The most advanced models allow the heat split to be adjusted: up to 80% to the hydronic side or 80% to the mass, with an irreducible minimum of 20% for each mode. So even in "hydro" configuration, the heater continues to radiate around the combustion chamber, guaranteeing constant ambient comfort.

The advantages of a boiler firebox for a masonry heater

  • Dual heat source: gentle radiant heat + water heating
  • Lower energy bills: less reliance on a central heating system
  • Flexible modulation: adapt the system to your seasonal needs
  • Ecology: maximum use of wood as a renewable resource

An ideal choice for low-energy houses

Boiler fireboxes are perfect for passive or high-performance buildings. By distributing energy according to need, they avoid overheating in living rooms while ensuring smooth heating spread throughout the house. Combined with a buffer tank, the system offers great autonomy and optimises heat release over time.

Compatibility and installation

Our boiler fireboxes are compatible with several types of handcrafted or modular masonry heaters. Installation does, however, require a thermal study and integration with your existing hydronic circuit. Do not hesitate to call on our partners or our expert advice for an optimal configuration.

FAQ - Boiler fireboxes and masonry heaters

  • Can a boiler firebox be used without a buffer tank?

It is not recommended. The buffer tank regulates the temperature and stores energy, preventing the hydronic circuit from overheating.

  • Does the heater still heat in “hydro” mode?

Yes. Even with 80% of the heat directed to the water, 20% remains dedicated to radiation from the mass. Comfort is maintained in the living room.

  • What maintenance should be planned?

An annual check of the hydronic circuit and the firebox is advisable, in particular to check the safety valves, corrosion and the condition of the tank.

  • Can the boiler firebox be coupled with a solar water heater?

Absolutely. This creates a mixed, high-performing, low-carbon system for greater energy independence.
