How to find the right grate
- Measure the grate seat in your firebox (width × length) and the thickness of the old grate.
- Compare these measurements with the external dimensions in the table: that is the overall size of the grate in its seat.
- For a firebox to be built, choose the grate first, then build its seat around its external dimensions.
- Pisla grates are sold individually: several can be laid side by side to cover a larger hearth.
- Not sure? Send us the make and model of your appliance, or a photo of the old grate with its dimensions.
What a firebox grate does
The grate carries the fire. It lets primary air through from below, which lights and sustains combustion, and lets the ashes fall into the ash pan: the firebox empties and is easier to clean.
The HTT 1B hole grate has a hollow shape which, according to Pisla, guides the logs to the centre of the grate where they burn out completely: embers and ashes do not stay at the sides of the firebox, combustion is more complete and cleaning is needed less often.
Frequently asked questions about firebox grates
Which grate for a masonry heater?
Pisla HTT grates are made for masonry fireboxes: masonry heaters, fireplaces, cooker fireboxes. The choice is made on the dimensions of the seat: see the table and "How to find the right grate".
What is the difference between internal and external dimensions?
Pisla gives both. The external dimensions are the overall size of the grate: they are the ones that must fit the seat. For grates with a frame (2K, 3K), they are those of the frame.
Do you sell the replacement grate for the Pisla Korpi stove?
Yes: the HTT Korpi grate, 161 × 181 mm, is the Pisla spare part for Korpi and Hohto stoves.
Where are these grates made?
Pisla HTT grates are made in Finland, the large Dommartin grate (350 × 500 mm) in France. All are cast iron.
I cannot find my size: what should I do?
Several grates laid side by side cover a larger area. Otherwise, contact us with the dimensions of your firebox.
